Romans 5:3-5

"We can rejoice, too, when we run into problems or trials, for we know they help us develop endurance. And endurance develops strength of character and character strengthens our confident hope of salvation. And this hope will not lead to disapointment. For we know how dearly God loves us, because he has given us the Holy Spirit to fill our hearts with his love." Romans 5:3-5

3 Months on PTH

Zach with Abraham Lincoln during an afternoon escape at NIH June 2011

It has been a while since we've updated the blog.  September is such a busy time of year for everyone.  Everything starts up!  School, music lessons, sports...the list goes on and on.  The past few months with Zach on PTH have been amazing.  It is truly unbelievable to see the transformation in his physical and mental state now that his body is receiving the hormone it does not make.... PTH.
What is different?  Well here are just a few of the things.  His energy level is way better.  In the spring, Zach would have between 1 to 3  "naps"  per day at school.  So far this fall, he has had ZERO napping!!!  AMAZING!!!
Another cool thing is that Zach now can "feel" the difference that the PTH makes in his body.  He will say, "my feet are numb"  or  "I can't feel my fingers".  He is able to communicate the pain and numbness in his body and TELL us.  This is so much better than the crying and anxiety that he was having before.  He can focus and tell us what hurts instead of us trying to guess what is going on.
There are some difficult things with the PTH like the bone pain and an increase in headaches.  However we are thankful that the real issue is being looked after and that he is looking and feeling so much better.

The BIG question is "when are we going back to Maryland?"  Well, we are still waiting for the Alberta Government to approve our application for the Genetic testing Zach requires.  Remember that Hypoparathyroidism (in Zach's case) is a symptom of a greater disease.  Since Zach is handling the injections so well and his calcium levels are stable, Dr. Winer (NIH) doesn't need to see him until the Test results are in.  Please pray that this happens soon.  We still only have some of the pieces to Zach's puzzle and it would just be nice to have an answer to this 9 year long question.

On a really fun note,  Anixter ( the amazing company Perry works for ) this past week gave Perry 2 tickets to the Edmonton Oilers vs Calgary Flames hockey game.  For whatever reason, probably because the logo is cool, Zach loves the Flames.  So Perry and Zach went on Saturday night and had a blast!

During the game, Zach got bugged enough about being a "Flames" fan that he took off his Calgary Flames Santa hat and decreed that he has changed his mind and from now on will cheer for the Oilers! LOL!
GO OILERS GO!!!!!!!!!!!
